In this video, I'm going to show you how to set up the course homepage on a course that you've imported as a course pack into a new Canvas site. So once you've imported the course pack, if you go to your course, you should see something like this. And the first module will usually say course guide for teachers share, but you're not published. And you can see that this little gray, so 0 icon means this is not published to students, everything except the course homepage. And if you click on the course homepage, you should be able to get it set up right from here. Okay, so this is the generic course homepage. Some of this will already be filled in for you, the course number and title. But we're going to go ahead and click edit up here at the top because we still need to add in structure information and some other stuff. Okay, so your cost number and title should be felt them but if not, you can update it, will maybe add your section a, B, and C. And here is why you can type in your name, your pronouns if you wish to provide that, and any information about what you want the students to call you. Nice vessel layer name, right? Okay. And you can go ahead and add your email, the number if you want to provide it. If you don't want to give you a phone number, you can just delete it like that. It's gone. Your office hours. And here under zoom classroom is where you're gonna put your zoom classroom link. And if you're using a password, you can provide it there as well, right? We don't want this faceless avatar here. So let's click on this and we're going to insert an image. So again, to look over on the right of the screen, the image selector is here, going to click upload a new image and click browse in order to find a picture. So click browse and find the picture from your computer. This is the photo. It's on the website. Under alternative text, you always need to provide alternative text. This is for assistive purposes for screen readers. And go ahead and click upload. And here it is, an enormous Nigel face. We don't want that. So can you say, yeah, there's a little arrow here. You can grab this and make this a bit bigger so we can see what we're doing. And then at the bottom we're going to click on the picture. Grab the little handle here. You'll see it's got the resize arrows. And we can make this a much less terrifying signs. Thanks to Scott do 48EI and his camera for this picture. And there we go. And we've now humanize the front page, okay, underneath it says use this section to briefly introduce yourself and you can type something nice and welcoming that. Alright, underneath we have cost information, so we're going to need to update the course information with the correct dates and times. And we can fill that out. Select the meeting times and days for your class. So subclasses will meet every day. Others might, for example, be meeting just three days a week with the other two days. A synchronous. We'll come back to the class time in just a minute. Here is wherever going to paste the course goals, this should already be there from your course pack, but you might want to add information and policies, such as information about how you're going to use synchronous and asynchronous learning. One more thing at the bottom it says syllabus learning outcomes and cost policies. Okay, this needs to be linked every time Okay, this needs to be linked every time because it cannot transfer with the course pack. So select it, go back up to the top and click on links in the select on the right. So we're gonna go over here to the core selector and click links and then open course navigation. links and then open course navigation. These are all the different menu items and click syllabus. And what this has done is it's created a link, you can see it's a blue to the syllabus page for this canvas sites. Okay? Right, one more thing. We've provided a time converter in case you have students in different time zones. So what you want to do here is hold down the Control key and click. And that will actually go to the link on your computer, as you can see here. And what we've done, as you can see, is we've set this for a summer class at 08:15 AM. So and this is important because there may be a difference in daylight savings time. So you can click on this and change it to the correct dates and correct time. So let's say you're actually teaching a class which meets at 1030 in the morning, okay? And you can see we've set this for a number of cities, but if you have students in another city, so let's say we have students in Medellin. Colombia will select Medellin Colombia. And that's 930 AM that ok? Right. The next thing we have to do now though, is pick up this URL, so click on it and then copy it like that or Ctrl C. Now go back to the course AOA and select the text, see the class time in your local time. And there's two things you can do. You can click on the link button here or hit Control K. Okay, we're going to paste the link that we got from the Times I'm converter, click Insert Link. Okay? And now just to prove it works, if I CTRL click, you can now see my 1030 AM class. Fantastic. When you finished, don't forget to go to the bottom and click the blue save button. And as our class homepage.
