I would like to talk with you about the tuition benefits here at UD. They are extremely generous and the other thing to really note is some of these education benefits you can use simultaneously. You could potentially have spouses and children and even yourself attending UD, using these benefits at the same time. The first one that we talk about here is tuition remission. This is for spouses and eligible dependent children who have been accepted as a full time matriculated student at the University of Delaware. And the remission will cover undergraduate tuition for fall and spring semesters. We are eligible to use up to two tuition remission requests each semester. If you happen to have a set of twins that have both been accepted full time matriculated, you can use that tuition remission for each of those children for fall and spring, or maybe you have a spouse and a child attending. You could use that for both of them. We also have a course fee waiver education benefit. And at the beginning of each calendar year, in January or with the winter session, employees receive six course fee waivers that they may use for themselves or they may share them with a spouse or eligible dependent children. This is a great benefit for those that are just looking to take a class or two at the university. They're not looking to become a full time matriculated student. The waivers will cover undergraduate or graduate level courses. And each waiver will cover up to a four credit course. If you do have a spouse or yourself, or even an eligible dependent child who wishes to get their Master's degree or looking for APHD, you could ideally use this education benefit. We also have a cooperative tuition exchange program. This education benefit is for employees only. They cannot be shared with spouses or dependent children. And this is if you wish to use a waiver each semester to take a course over at Deltec or Delaware State University. They have course offerings that sometimes differ from the university. It is nice to have that alternative. We also have a Delaware Technical and Community College tuition exchange benefit. This is for spouses or you're eligible dependent children who are enrolled at Deltec in a full time degree granting program. Every year, in the month of August, we hold a lottery. And if you enter this lottery and you are selected, it can cover the tuition for that dependent for fall and spring semesters. So again, this is just another wonderful opportunity that you have. In addition to the University of Delaware and attending just the University of Delaware, we also have a tuition exchange program on a national level. We have a tuition exchange organization with approximately 640 schools nationwide that participate in this program. And this basically gives your child an opportunity to compete for a scholarship among any of these participating tuition exchange schools. This is for your eligible dependent child who is a senior in high school and plans to apply to a college or university throughout the country. It gives them a chance to compete. It is a very competitive scholarship program, and there is no guarantee that your child will receive a scholarship. The actual benefit or opportunity is that they have the chance to compete. In many cases, if awarded a scholarship, it will cover full tuition. In some cases it might cover partial tuition and some tuition exchange schools will offer partial tuition plus maybe room and board or plus a meal plan. They throw in other very good Tici of goodies to mix up with that tuition. It's a really wonderful opportunity for regular, non exempt and exempt staff. You must participate in the tuition exchange lottery that we hold every year in October. You must be selected in that lottery in order to have your child be able to compete for a scholarship for faculty. You are permitted to have one child automatically go ahead and compete for a scholarship. And I will point out this is the only education benefit that does require two years of benefited service the year in which you are submitting your tuition exchange application in October. All of the other education benefits really don't have a waiting period. As long as you are in a benefited position by or on the free drop ad day of the semester, then the other education benefits would be applicable that semester. Also please note for tuition, remission, and course fee waivers, registration or enrollment of the course must take place first before completing an education Web form. The education web form will be submitted in order for you to have the education benefit applied to the student account. But before you can even submit that web form, you must go ahead and enroll or register for the course first. In order for that web form to process, successfully find that you are a dependent need assistants to enroll in a course or need to speak with a counselor. You can contact Professional and Continuing Studies or PCS. They can be reached at 328-31-8843 or you can contact them via email at access advised at Udl dot edu. They have wonderful resources. They're very helpful if you need some assistance in getting your classes mapped out for you.
