What opportunities are available for me outside of class?

The UD College of Arts and Sciences (CAS) is not all lecture halls—it's a vibrant learning environment with laboratory and community-based research opportunities and hands-on experiences!

CAS students take on many roles, including as interns for the UD National Agenda Speakers Series, fashion show chairs, brain camp counselors, laboratory research assistants and field research leaders. The opportunities are endless in CAS, but don't just take our word for it! Hear from CAS faculty and students about the vast experiences available to you in the UD Arts and Sciences community.

Faculty and student panelists guide viewers through some of the biggest questions faced by prospective students and their families, including:

• What internships are offered in my area of study?
• Are there student field and lab research opportunities, and how do I apply?
• How do I participate in out-of-classroom experiences? Are they application-based, invitation-only or dependent on grades?

A general introduction of the program, Our Mission: Your Success! - Learning Beyond the Classroom, including how students can participate. The panel of participants, which includes Nancy Karibjanian, the director of the UD Center for Political Communication and an instructor in broadcast journalism;  Jason Mycoff, an associate professor in the UD Department of Political Science and International relations; Lisa Chieffo, the interim director of the Institute for Global Studies; Christina Sullivan, a student majoring in neuroscience and cognitive science;  and Kelly Read, a student majoring in communication with internship experience, is introduced. Information is shared about the college’s expansive offerings when it comes to majors, minors, study abroad programs, research centers, faculty members and special programming. Students also learn about the advising team in CAS and how to connect with them.

Professor Karibjanian shares information on internships offered in communication and across the social science offerings in the UD College of Arts and Sciences, offering details specific to internship opportunities in broadcast and media communication and through UD’s Center for Political Communication. “There’s a long history of UD internships turning into fabulous opportunities,” says Professor Karibjanian.

Professor Mycoff shares the importance of internships, as well as internship offerings and opportunities available for students in political science and international relations. He also shares examples of remote internships and internships that can be found off-campus.

UD student Christina Sullivan shares her experience with neuroscience and cognitive science research opportunities within UD’s lab cohorts. “I found it to be a phenomenal experience with a great team of people and I worked closely with the professor in the lab,” says Christina. “If you come to UD, you can find plenty of research opportunities no matter what your major.”

Lisa Chieffo of the UD Institute for Global Studies shares why UD is a great place to consider studying abroad. She goes on to highlight the many study abroad opportunities available for students year-round, including study abroad opportunities during UD’s winter and summer sessions.

Lisa Chieffo shares the particulars of how students can learn more about study abroad and ensure that it doesn’t delay their graduation.
