“Can I have more than one major and still finish in four years?”
CAS academic advisors discuss the flexibility of the major programs and academic tracks within the College. Because of this, many programs within the College of Arts and Sciences allow for a double major.
11:00-15:15
“Do you have multiple majors? How do you balance the workload?”
Current UD undergraduate students discuss their majors, minors and concentrations. One major suggestion to prospective students? Utilize the academic advising staff, as well as program staff, to ensure that you pick courses that fulfill degree and program options and be open to Winter and Summer Session learning opportunities. UD student Kasiyah discusses the flexibility of the UD Political Science program and says, “Make sure to pick majors that you’re passionate about because then the time management part will be easier.”
15:20-18:20
“What if a student wants to change their major, how does that work?”
UD academic advisors explore a variety of reasons why students want to change their major and how to pursue next steps. The advising team recommends always coming to meet with your academic advisor before making a decision or if you need help or advice. Because of its organization, most major programs in CAS allow for students to easily transfer to another major. CAS advisors also recommend connecting with the UD Career Center, https://www.udel.edu/students/career-center/.
18:30-22:00
“What are minors and why are they valuable?”
“A minor can really help you focus your interest.” UD academic advisors share why students choose a minor and how it can benefit and enhance a student’s overall academic journey. An example is shared of a student seeking out minors to complement a core major.
22:00-27:45
“Do you have minors? What motivated you to add a minor?”
Whether it has led to adding another major or simply helped them explore another interest, UD students Maggie and Kasiyah share how minors have tied into their academic journey. Students also discuss concentrations, language minors and how minors and concentrations can help build on a general interest. “Minors give you the opportunity to deepen, diversify and strengthen your skill set,” says student Kasiyah. The fact that minors are not restricted to any particular major or program of study is also covered.
27:50-31:00
“What role does an academic advisor play in a student’s career at UD?”
UD academic advisors explain how they support students along their academic journey, highlighting how advisors are a great resource for class scheduling, exploring majors and minors and interpreting academic policies and deadlines. Academic advisors also help with transfer students, credit evaluations and other technical processes.
