The Department of Women and Gender Studies and UD Athletics host a
special event celebrating 50 years of Title IX, the landmark equal-opportunity
law that gave female student-athletes access to competitive sports, as well as
educational and professional opportunities. The event kicks off the spring
Women’s History film series and includes the
screening of “Rise of the Wahine: Champions of Title IX,” a film providing a historic look at the significance of Title IX and
sports, as told through the story of the University of Hawaii’s volleyball
team. The evening also includes a panel discussion on the state of
the game for women in sports.
