Welcome. Welcome to the MS in Business Analytics and Information Management at the University of Delaware and the Lerner College of Business and Economics. I am Andrea ever and I'm a professor of management information systems. The associate dean for undergraduate programs, and the director of the MS in Business Analytics and information management. We sub-areas our graduate coordinator in the department of accounting and management information systems. Together we will make sure that your experience in the MS in Business Analytics and Information Management is the best that it can be. Of course, we would have preferred this to be a face-to-face student orientation. But getting these unprecedented and unexpected times, you're glad that we're able to reach out through this video. We also are hopeful that before the end of your program, we will have met face-to-face and we will continue this relationship. In the next few minutes, I would like to provide you with a brief overview of our program, the courses that are, that make up this program, as well as give you a few pointers to make sure that you are the most successful MS is, is analytics and information management student that you can be. So lets get started. Ems and BIM is a program of 30 credits. Nine of those credits are required. The seven other courses are selected by the suit. What differentiates us from many, many programs at the University of Delaware is a flexible curriculum that can be customized to meet your personal professional goals. The three required classes of this program are database design and implementation, systems analysis and implementation, and telecommunications and networking. The other seven classes that make up this program can be chosen from the list that are on the screen. At this point, you may choose to focus more on the business analytics side of this program, taking classes such as business intelligence and analytics, optimizing spreadsheet modeling, data mining for business analytics or big data technologies. You may also choose to focus more on the information management side of this program. Taking courses such as ethics and technology management, project management, IT, and organizational effectiveness. Of course, you're also welcome to combine both the business analytics and the information management side of this program. You'll also notice the Plautus, others possible at the end of the second column, I encourage you to look at other courses that are available at the University of Delaware, whether it is in a different program, whether it's in a different college. I urge you to talk to your classmates, talk to your faculty, see what other courses are available. Other courses that may interest you, that will make sure that your program is the best that it can be for what it is that you want to do it. Now you may be wondering who actually recruits our graduate students. Well, here's a list of some of the recent employers of those who have come through this program. University of delaware, THE JPMorgan Chase, Comcast, Bank of America, Christiana Care, which is the main hospital here in Delaware, as well as AstraZeneca, large pharmaceutical company headquartered in Wilmington, Delaware. Different types of positions that our graduates have taken include business analysts, data analysts, IT project management managers, and an array of other types of positions. Now, what do you need to do to be a successful master's student in business analytics and information management. First, make this program work for you. But I like to tell my students is to perform a brief self analysis. Think about what do you know? What skills you have? What do you need to know? What skills would you like to have? And then make this program either bridge, think about what your interests are, what will make you more marketable? Ask your classmates for suggestions, reach out to faculty, talk to the learner Career Services Office, look at all of the courses that are available at the University of Delaware and make this program work for you. Please be proactive, be engaged, even him as virtual learning environment. There are so many opportunities for you to reach out and to make the connections that are needed to be successful in the business world. First, get your resume ready. Make an appointment with the learner. Career services. Need the firms for those of you who don't know is a very large Career Fair. This happens in September of every single year. This year it will be virtual, but still hundreds of companies are looking to hire our graduates. There are several networking events. There are executive mentoring programs as well, the graduate internship programs that are available through the learner Career Services. So make sure you reach out and you learn all about the different opportunities that are available to you as a graduate student in the Lerner College of Business and Economics. Also look into Toastmasters. For those of you who are not familiar with this organization, as it is essentially an organization designed to help us all become better public speakers. And then finally, I urge you to raise your hand whether you are provided with an opportunity that you are not so sure you'll be comfortable with raise your hand. Somebody asked you to do something. Raise your hand. At any opportunity that you are given. Raise your hand. Say, I'll do it. I promise you, you will never regret raising your hand and jumping on opportunities, but you may regret missing an opportunity. As part of the MS in BIM, We have a very active Graduate Student Association. The web link is at the top. And I urge you to look at the different events and workshops that the GSA will put on. And then finally, I ask you to do one thing every week. Whether it's attend a lecture, whether I'd workshop or seminar, perhaps making an appointment with the learner career services office. Whether it's creating your LinkedIn page, updated your LinkedIn page whenever it is. Just make sure you do one thing every week. By the end of this fall semester, you will have done 14 things just by doing one thing every week. And really, there is no limit as to what you can do given the many, many opportunities here in the Lerner College of Business and Economics. So again, even though of course, we would prefer this to be face to face, we are here for you. You can always send me an email, the subarea in email, we will get back to you as soon as we can. We can set up zoom appointments so that we can meet somewhat face-to-face. But any questions that you have, please do not hesitate to reach out. We definitely want to make your experience in the MS, in Business Analytics and information management the best experience that they can be.
