On September 21, 2026, the University of Delaware Department of Africana Studies welcomed guest speaker Amani C.
Morrison, author of A Kitchenette to Fit Your Needs:
Housing Chicago’s Great Migration. As part of the department's Black Table Talks series, the discussion
offered a cultural analysis of the kitchenette within
Chicago’s history of housing, race and urban life, as it existed at the nexus
of the Great Migration and the Great Depression, of housing precarity and
domestic innovation, of racial capitalism and racial uplift.
