Abstract: This seminar will highlight recent work from the Coastal Sediments, Hydrodynamics, and Engineering Lab spanning three interconnected themes: fundamental research on coastal and seafloor processes, applied coastal science, and innovation through autonomous systems and ocean exploration. Examples will range from coastal change and habitat mapping to artificial reefs, shipwrecks, and marine debris, and the growing use of robotics, remote sensing, and artificial intelligence in marine science. Together, these efforts illustrate how field observations, emerging technologies, and interdisciplinary collaboration can expand our ability to understand and explore dynamic coastal and ocean environments.
Biography: Art Trembanis is a coastal geomorphologist with a focus in marine robotics and has been at the University of Delaware since 2005. He leads the Coastal Sediments, Hydrodynamics, and Engineering Lab, where his research integrates coastal processes, seafloor mapping, autonomous systems, and marine exploration. His work spans fundamental and applied science, with a particular emphasis on developing and deploying new approaches for observing coastal and ocean environments in support of the blue economy.
