Hello. My name is Dr. Seraphin and I will be directing the Dominica GEOG 2022 winter session program. Here is a brief review of the plan. The curriculum entails, the study of physical, social, and economic problems involved in integrating resource management and maintaining environmental quality. And the physical geography of the island of the Commonwealth of Dominica, located in the eastern Caribbean Sea. Dominica is a rugged mountainous island of volcanic origin. Its highest point is Morne Diablotin, at 1,447 meters. It is the most mountainous of the Lesser Antilles. And its volcanic peaks are cones of lava craters, and include Boiling Lake, the second largest thermally active lake in the world. This winter session program typically takes a variety of field trips, including one's to Fort Shirley, the Kalinago territory, Sulphur Springs, an ocean experience that would afford you the opportunity to see a vibrant marine life habitat. Here, you will find some of the most colorful and healthiest reef systems in the Caribbean. All students must enroll in at least six credits, as well as the 0 credit UNIV course. The two courses are, Geography 101, Physical Geography, which entails looking at our Earth's physical geography, which emphasizes the factors that lead to the formation of different environments. And how the elements of the natural environment combine to form environmental regions. In Dominica, the course will focus on the Earth's atmosphere. Specifically. It will examine one, the fundamental processes of the atmosphere and two, provide answers to the question, why and how do the climates of the world vary? Our second course, Geography 235, Conservation of Natural Resources. Also three credits. This course focuses on the physical, social, and economic problems involved in integrating resource management and maintaining environmental quality. One of the learning objectives of this course is to develop a meaningful understanding of the concepts of vulnerability and the sustainability and how they relate to natural resources conservation. With specific reference to Dominica. Whether you are interested in geography, getting drenched from tropical showers or an ocean experience, the winter session in the Commonwealth of Dominica is your chance to get a taste of Dominica's favorite Creole cuisine, to learn a little more of your neighbors to your south, and a few words of Patois. Bring your hiking boots, your camcorders, and your binoculars since you will be trekking through the tropical rain forest, where you will be able to record the sound and the sight of the Sisserou parrot, which is unique to Dominica, the nature island of the Caribbean. And the Sisserou parrot, is its national bird. Thank you very much. Please join us.
