Good afternoon everyone. Today we're going to be doing a lesson on, we'll work to focusing on American values. So we're going to start with a little warm up. You are going to use magic bowl if everyone could get on the phone to the laptops and go up there. We will show for you all to join. What is up itself? And this is the question will be asked and answered what our American values. I believe you just submit more than one response. So just whatever comes to mind, you'll have a couple of minutes to finish this and then we'll go over it. All right. Looks like most people at the results. I'd like to have a few people share what they play and why democracy, where we get to anyone else. I said those are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness sounds kind of foundation of what started in our nation. Even threw up introverts in this kind of founding fundamental belief. Hello, World War. I said, just general values that most American freedom of speech or a democratic republic. But it's a pretty broad question. Next, we will discuss what you see and we're going to have you guys read this over for a couple minutes to yourselves. And then think about what the major takeaways from Roosevelt speeches for context, this was giving you in July 1940. Security. Want on. Pretty much never use your slides. Yeah. I'm going to call on a few people to give me the mean just made the points are your takeaways. What are American values we're seeing within this speech? He's kind of facing the floor, let say he's arguing about contrast it with Nazi Germany and elsewhere in the world of East freedom from x, y, and z are all things that are going on in here. You say miracle. Free from all these problems are going to express themselves. Americans have the freedom to feel secure and safe. And can anyone tell me the exact for frequency? Let me point out. Freedom from fear, worship. Yes. What do you think? What is the purpose of the Four Freedoms? What are they doing for his party? Who's arguing that physicians don't have this. Right. So now let us, nazi Germany had pretty much the Axis powers are suppose to these values that he sees them here. And these are the four freedoms. And now I'm going to have you look at this image. On the handout was a box that says freedom. Then you're going to describe it and also do not. About 1 min to this morning's lecture. The freedom from one. Make sure that you're observing both what is in the image and what is missing. This is the industry, the freedom to foreshadow what is in the image. Velocity, which is freedom. From here. You guys 30 more seconds to run. Okay? Who wants to share what is depicted in this image? That someone was standing boys in his opinion, which is the man. What does this diversity? It's all good point. Anyone else notice something different or missing? Oh, it seems like the man is like a blue-collar worker and the guys listening to him or like a higher status. It's kind of like they're ignoring the separation in classes. Like everyone's equal. The exact contents. Who was really bad? Judge. Okay, that's very good point. Is he speaking the powers and speaking to his peers. There's a lack of aggression photo and on occasion speaking peacefully. And what about this image, but freedom from what we see in watching. I see little white, probably like middle, middle upper-class families. From that one is missing. Any type of difference. Diversity, in which ways is it just, it's all just like every other class. And it's all just like the previous one. It's kind of like your average American family. Yes. What about from the freedom to worship? People? To worship? We're seeing things like Christian worship, consciousness, which kind of decades later. Yes. There are depicted, it takes them out. Anymore. What amounts to the freedom from fear? Like maybe the breakpoints bring up. But in this image, it's just like be like juxtapose having, being afraid to the Blitz. Super scary. You didn't have nobody has any, any theory in particular. And that's not like nuclear family. Told me. Like, yeah, there's nobody told, nobody in Paris, there's more. There appears for all these things. They're able to stay in their house. In certain areas of certain countries, people tend to decorate their own home so that they have, without feeling unsafe in their own home, live their daily lives. Do we think these are accurate depictions for what it was like? But all we're matching morning class. Well, that leaves me with this question. I want you to talk amongst yourselves in your groups where the greens are applicable to all hurricanes, which one's definitely weren't? We're not just relevant the most part. All right. Just like Columbus, everybody has it gotten worse, not better. Would anyone like to volunteer to say sorry, but I will. Well, I said that abortion was injection. Brian. It was applicable for very small second American society like white people. Because also, I mean, this is not necessarily the full census, but I think that it's not Foley. One size fits all. And I think that across the US there's going to be certain communities for people of different races and stuff get along a little better than others. Not that race relations for perfect by any means, it's just that. That it would be more honest to say that in some circumstances it was better for different groups equal to interact with each other without much beer, but in others as much. So I think that it kind of varies, but overall, the four freedoms are not affordable to all Americans at all times. That's for sure. Nick. We don't agree with everyone else. I mean, it just simply the freedoms relate. Not really for all Americans are just like some of them like especially with what Victoria said, like we're shutting it just seemed like it was all Christians and the Jews couldn't really like to express themselves at the time. A paradox really important for Freedom. African-americans like fighting for the freedom in America. They weren't allowed in certain troops. And World War two was kind of like a Star Wars. Which talks really not fair. It was also a break before your name published her book which started. Probably brings up a great point that it's not just forgot just missing a diversity within race and economic status. Gender inequality also like sexuality, LGBTQ. I think it's an interesting country, like Internet. Directly going against all four. It's very contradictory as a great segue. So does anyone know why he's shown in these pictures? What do you guys know about Japanese internment camps from prior knowledge? They were instituted, it calls a fear post Pearl Harbor, just to put them all in one place. If your size and other espionage. Essentially the American government framed as they were protecting Japanese-Americans from reality. The Japanese people were forced to relinquish their homes and personal possessions. So yes, the Japanese drew him. So first of all, about 120,000 Japanese Americans. I'm going to ask you guys know why, but maximum a dashed line. So the US government suspected that somebody might be spies giving information to Japan during the war. Many of them lost their properties and businesses. Like the fact that they oppose these camps to begin life is like for a day. But then they can just whenever finally release, I can just go after normal life. So 11 another pre-filled what they had before. About 1,600 of them actually die from cancer. That kind of shows that they weren't really being treated. As. The greatest thing is that 70% of them are actually born in the United States. So 70% of Americans, having that Japanese heritage members clinic asked as the head Jaffe search for American citizens. So in 2017, 35 years after the Japanese Americans got released from the internment camps, the Japanese Americans that were placed in the wealthiest man made 70% more money than the ones that were placed in the least local account. So you can imagine that that's crazy, that 35 years later they gathered is that much of a lasting impact. And the average white American salary and 1980 was about 60,000. So you can see the gap there. Now, everyone vaccinated switches. Okay, if you guys want to do a round robin in your small groups and talk about the details that you noticed in these pictures. We're going to standardize group member gonna give you a valid one to 2 min to get started. Then you can go counterclockwise. First-year, right? We'll go ahead. Okay. Based on the word count. Isolation. Pretty well. What else? What does that look like? Working? Sorry about where do you notice? One on the left illustrates a fear from the internment camps that a large migration Japanese people on the West Coast would lead to further damage. It's essentially just Ferris wheel. Also there's a sauce, which is basically saying that this woman, her shirt says the kids born children only worried about her. Something that I just noticed. I noticed like from history times, like American people that aren't white like worse off than Delta pick someone else like even though both of these things are really behind, the Japanese wanted to painting them all as like going to bomb there. Really bad, right? Whereas Hitler's like community, way worse atrocities than what happened. Harbor and depict it in a lot of curious if the second one is actually sapphire because it's just such a terrible thing to say. So I'm curious if it's more for doctors who sleep making fun of the idea. But actually, when they exert very esoteric, I bought a bit almost as like I'm reading this as a cautionary tale of my kids, but as the adult spit back the same tactic because the American government and the internment camps and all the policies that were instituted, there's almost this element and the properties to it that he's calling out, let them air and definitely they want you to show us the American position before her Arbor. I'd like isolation and just not really carrying. You guys deserve. We all grew up reading his stuff, like kind of what we might imagine, stuff like this. Just as America went to war against Japan again today, were you guys think would be the same? And what do you think would be different in terms of whether it's the haze or wherever it is. I would definitely be different. Just because since World War Two, There's a huge influx of Japanese and Asian culture in general in America. Like most people are college campuses watch anime or like that culture. So it would definitely be different. Jose, that they were definitely have to be some sort of economic or external ones because I don't think there's that same negative association with Japanese kinda what I'm getting at there used to be, I mean, when you have an incident like Pearl Harbor in the nation can rally around hatred against the entire different people. But now we don't really have that. So they'll have to find some oil to Japan or something like that. Let us say that things would be very different. After looking at how people reacted when COVID hit and how people are treated age people. I definitely think that especially with the older generation, they would be pushing for war and pushing like anti Asian in general. Like something that journey question. And it's pretty much the same. I think generally the way in which the war would be fought, the way very different because since World War II, generally countries trying to avoid like at least, I don't know, a lot of the big modern Western world once they tend to avoid trying to inflict mass casualties through vomiting big civilian population centers like all the time because of World War II, was kind of like anything goes. They would purposely target civilian centers for target these like industrial areas, regardless of whether or not they're a bunch of people living there. So I think that the way in which Lord and Bob would be different, Just because now also the whole bowl to be watching. And then because the social media and everything. So the US fleet one totally solely its reputation by just recklessly bonding Japan into oblivion, at least not as much as it would've done there or to kind of go off. That would be another similar Cold War santa, like who's going to push the button first and no one wants to do it, but it's essentially be there. Suddenly, similar to this espionage, infiltrating and trying to destroy the other country from the inside. Hopefully, everyone has allies. And again, not just move on to an activity we're going to do. Okay. Not there's been anywhere because I don't pay for Kahoot. You guys will have to pick one person to join your groups. Because the free version, only once you have up to ten people join. I apologize. All right, everybody. Okay. So this is just the intro is going to be found over to about. Here starts your question. Which one of these options is not wet before freedoms described by FDR? Alright, question two, how would it be internment camps and had Japanese American lives later on in life. So far we did Japanese Americans lose as a result of being placed in the attorney can't. So this one is very specific to what we mentioned in the lesson. Alright, so terrible twos and believe, what was the function of the four freedoms? Everybody is always getting everything right, you know, so we need to have a couple of people have happened. That's right because we're playing in groups. The answer was just patient further involvement in World War One. Which thing is author of Canada cartoon? It was a question but you couldn't get it wrong. But these were things that all Americans have a scare. Alright? Okay. And for one of our last accidents, I want you to turn your paper if you want to use to create your own notes for reactivity, what are, what are the four freedoms would like to jump to? Japanese-americans? Were kind of maybe not necessarily. Yes. Now we're at appetite. Maybe like 2 min and then I'll ask some people to share. Does anyone before This persecution. To take the chapter, we're all done. Anyone like to share what you're seeing as an, as an enemy to American society. No longer shunned from afraid of the government. How do we feel about our responses but rather contradictory to the Porfirio? Feel like they are true to American values? No. Are you sure? And the last fingers send you a quick exit ticket over that paper. The original question. That's our praise to the four freedoms alive, that would be fraud. Make sure every one of us, their name on top of the paper. There should be a little line you put it, but my copier is broken, so just make sure it's somewhere on paper. But the top, you've got three more seconds. Good.
