Rethinking Research for Schools
The Center for Research Use in Education (CRUE) is an IES-funded knowledge utilization center charged with the measurement and description of research use in schools. At the core of the Center’s work is the development and administration of the Survey of Evidence in Education, a pair of instruments – one designed for school-based practitioners and one for researchers – seeking to capture decision-making and research production processes, respectively; perspectives on key gaps between research and practice; networks for connecting with research or practice respectively; and perceptions of capacity to engage with research or practice respectively. We are also examining what we call the “third space” between research in practice in which individuals and organizations serve as brokers between the two communities. We draw on this work in outreach and engagement activities designed to build awareness of the need for and about strategies for building stronger ties between research and practice.
